Who are you helping?

Refugees and Immigrants

Canada grants refugee status to applicants who have been forced to flee their country due to war, persecution, violence, or face danger due to their beliefs, race, political opinion, or membership in a minority group that meets persecution (e.g. due to sexual orientation.) Unlike refugees, immigrants may vacate their country by choice to look for better opportunities, such as education or employment for themselves and their families.

Our Role

The team in MFRS supports immigrant and refugee families to thrive through culturally responsive and participant-driven programs and services that reduce social isolation, enhance knowledge and skills, increase access to community supports and intercultural opportunities, encourage health and wellbeing, reduce poverty, and empower families to walk in multiple cultures confidently.
