Community Rising

Having a community space of support and belonging is critical to enabling activities and community to develop. The MCHB-MFRS arabic speaking Family Support Centre has been nurtured by the committment and care of community, and its impact on the settlement and integration journeys of the Syrian youth group who gathers there is undeniable. 

Bridging the Language Barrier

Owing to language barriers and lack of connections, I was often misunderstood at my workplace.  I could not express my feelings well, and I often started to speak louder when I got frustrated, then burst into tears.  No one wanted to be close to me.  I was eventually laid off. 

Finally, a chance

We had $100 USD with us...This was all the money we had and that was not even enough to buy medication for our child who often got sick. My brother’s family was very busy making ends meet and taking care of the children. They could not help us to access any services such as health care and social insurance, English assessments, etc. because the government offices were closed on weekends when they were off work. We felt we were trapped...
